Research Description: Robert's research is currently centered on the "Sense and Avoid" problem, specifically hardware implementation. If UAS are to be allowed access to the National Airspace System (NAS) they must be able to interact safely with all current airspace users. Sense and Avoid Systems (SAA) are needed for UAS to identify potential collision threats and maneuver to avoid them. In this implementation, camera images are processed to identify threats and then path-planning algorithms create collision-free maneuvers.
