Robert Klaus selected as finalist in 2013 AIAA GNC Conference Graduate Student Paper Competition

MAGICC lab student Robert Klaus was selected as a finalist in the 2013 AIAA GNC Conference Graduate Student Paper Competition. The conference submission, “A Radar-Based, Tree-Branching Sense and Avoid System for Small Unmanned Aircraft” co-authored with Robert’s advisor, Dr. Timothy McLain, was presented at a special competition session with the other finalists in front of a panel of judges. It details much of Robert’s thesis work relating to collision avoidance using a forward-looking tree algorithm to plan avoidance maneuvers for small (under 5 pound) UAS in real-time given their unique size, weight, and power constraints. Congratulations Robert.
